PRESS RELEASE:

Aliso Editions and The Newsstand Project are proud to present new prints by Petra Cortright, Elizabeth Ibarra, and Susumu Kamijo. The exhibition will run from February 13th - 17th, 2020, open every day from 12pm - 4pm. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 13th from 12pm - 4pm.

Aliso Editions is Los Angeles-based print and multiples publisher founded in 2019. Named after a sycamore tree known as El Aliso that towered over the early Los Angeles landscape for nearly 400 years, Aliso Editions seeks to pay homage to the ancient landmark’s place in the city’s multi-cultural past and present by publishing prints and multiples from a diverse set of artists, with an eye toward the future and the ever-changing landscape of the art world.

Digital artist Petra Cortright will be exhibiting new digital paintings on paper which depict a series of landscapes of varying degrees of abstraction. On view are everything from images of The White House to African savannas, and scenes are filled with flora and fauna both real and fantastical in quality.

Having never received formal training, Elizabeth Ibarra makes work of an immediate and spiritual nature. Her marks are quick, gestural, and delicate, while remaining incredibly tactile. In ‘(bush mouthed)’, the artist combines techniques of lithography and oil crayon hand-appliqué to make a uniquely personal print.

Known for his iconic paintings of poodles, Susumu Kamijo collaborated with Aliso Editions to produce ‘Day Trippers’, a detailed silkscreen of two dogs sitting side-by-side. Kamijo’s attention to color and detail makes for a vivid portrait both austere and playful.

Prints will be on view and available at The Newsstand Project as well as the Aliso Editions website. For more information visit www.alisoeditions.com.
